Assess the Vulnerabilities of Your Gates

Now, let’s take a moment to assess the vulnerabilities of your gates. You’ll want to make sure they’re as secure as possible, so you can have peace of mind knowing that your commercial property is well-protected.

Start by assessing the overall condition of your gates and identifying weak points. Look for signs of wear and tear, such as rust, loose hinges, or broken locks. Pay close attention to areas where water or wind could potentially penetrate and cause damage. Check for gaps between panels or gaps between the gate and the ground that could allow moisture or debris to enter.

By thoroughly assessing these vulnerabilities, you can determine which areas need improvement and prioritize your weatherproofing efforts.

With this information in mind, let’s move on to choosing the right materials and coatings for optimal protection against the elements without compromising style or functionality.

Choose the Right Materials and Coatings

When choosing materials for your commercial gates, it’s crucial to select ones that are weather-resistant. Look for options such as stainless steel or aluminum. These materials can withstand harsh weather conditions without corroding or deteriorating.

Additionally, applying protective coatings and finishes can provide an extra layer of defense against the elements. This ensures the longevity and durability of your gates.

Select weather-resistant materials

Using weather-resistant materials is like giving your commercial gate a suit of armor, protecting it from the elements and ensuring its longevity. When selecting durable materials for your gate, look for options that can withstand harsh weather conditions such as rain, snow, and extreme temperatures.

Materials like stainless steel and aluminum are excellent choices due to their resistance to corrosion and rusting. Additionally, consider using UV-resistant polymers or coatings to prevent color fading and damage from sunlight exposure.

These weather-resistant materials will not only increase the lifespan of your gate but also reduce maintenance costs in the long run.

Now that you have chosen the right materials, it’s time to apply protective coatings and finishes to further enhance its durability and resistance against the elements.

Apply protective coatings and finishes

To ensure your gate can withstand the harshest of weather conditions, it’s crucial to apply protective coatings and finishes. These coatings and finishes act as a shield against rain, snow, and extreme temperatures. By applying them, you can significantly enhance the durability and longevity of your commercial gates.

Here are some benefits of using protective coatings:

  • Improved resistance to corrosion and rust
  • Enhanced UV protection for fade resistance
  • Increased waterproofing capabilities
  • Added strength against impact damage

Comparing different weatherproofing techniques can help you determine the most suitable option for your specific gate requirements. Some common options include powder coating, galvanizing, epoxy coatings, or polyurethane finishes. Each technique offers unique advantages in terms of cost-effectiveness, durability, and aesthetic appeal.

Once you have applied the appropriate protective coating or finish to your gate, it’s essential to implement proper installation techniques. This ensures its effectiveness in withstanding harsh weather conditions without compromising functionality or safety.

Implement Proper Installation Techniques

To ensure your gates are properly sealed and aligned, it’s crucial to implement proper installation techniques.

Take the time to carefully align the gate panels and make sure they are level before securing them in place.

Additionally, using appropriate hardware and fasteners will help ensure a secure and long-lasting installation.

Choose high-quality materials that are specifically designed for outdoor use to withstand the elements and prevent rust or corrosion.

Ensure gates are properly sealed and aligned

Properly sealed and aligned, the gates create a tight barrier against the elements. Assessing gate vulnerabilities is crucial to identify areas that need sealing. Look for gaps or cracks where moisture can seep in, compromising the gate’s weatherproofing abilities. Once identified, apply sealants specifically designed for outdoor use, ensuring a watertight seal.

Gate alignment techniques are equally important to prevent water from entering through misaligned sections. Check if the gates are level and adjust as necessary using shims or hinges to ensure proper alignment. Additionally, make sure all bolts and screws holding the gates together are tightened securely.

By addressing these sealing and alignment issues, you can enhance your gate’s resistance to weather conditions effectively.

Moving on to the next section about using appropriate hardware and fasteners…

Use appropriate hardware and fasteners

Using the right hardware and fasteners ensures your gate remains secure and protected, giving you peace of mind.

When weatherproofing your commercial gate, it is crucial to use high quality materials that can withstand harsh conditions. Choosing the right tools and equipment is also essential for proper installation.

Make sure to select hardware that is specifically designed for outdoor use, such as stainless steel screws and bolts, which are resistant to rust and corrosion. Additionally, consider using weather-resistant seals and gaskets to prevent water from seeping into the gate’s joints.

Properly aligning and tightening all fasteners will help maintain the structural integrity of your gate during extreme weather events.

By using appropriate hardware and fasteners, you are taking proactive steps in ensuring the longevity of your gate’s weatherproofing system.

This will be discussed further in the next section about regular maintenance and inspection.

Regular Maintenance and Inspection

To properly maintain and inspect your commercial gates, it’s important to clean them regularly. This will help prevent the buildup of debris and dirt that can cause damage over time.

Additionally, make sure to check for any signs of damage or wear such as rust, loose hinges, or broken parts.

By staying vigilant and addressing any issues promptly, you can ensure the longevity and functionality of your gates.

Clean gates regularly

To keep your gates in top condition and prevent any build-up of dirt and debris, it is important to clean them regularly. This is a crucial part of maintenance inspection that should not be overlooked. Regular cleaning helps remove dirt, dust, and other particles that accumulate over time. Gently scrub the surface of the gate using a soft cloth or sponge with mild soap and water. Pay close attention to hard-to-reach areas, such as hinges and corners, where debris tends to gather. Rinse the gate thoroughly with clean water and dry it with a soft towel to avoid water spots or streaks. By maintaining cleanliness, you can prolong the lifespan of your gates and ensure their optimal functionality. Additionally, as you clean your gates regularly, it is important to check for signs of damage or wear and address any issues promptly before they worsen.

Check for signs of damage or wear

Regularly checking for signs of damage or wear is crucial in order to address any issues promptly and prevent further deterioration.

When inspecting your commercial gates, pay close attention to signs of corrosion, as this can weaken the structure and compromise its functionality. Look for rust or discoloration on metal components and ensure that all protective coatings are intact.

Additionally, identify weak spots such as loose hinges or bolts that may need tightening or replacing. It’s important to catch these problems early on to avoid more significant damage down the line.

By regularly inspecting your gates and addressing any signs of damage or wear, you can ensure that they remain in optimal condition and continue to withstand harsh weather conditions.

In the next section, we will discuss additional weatherproofing measures you can consider implementing for added protection.

Consider Additional Weatherproofing Measures

To ensure the utmost protection against harsh weather conditions, it’s important to consider additional weatherproofing measures for your commercial gates.

Start by installing weatherstripping and seals around the edges of the gate to prevent any water or air from getting through.

Additionally, make sure you provide adequate drainage and ventilation to avoid any potential damage caused by excess moisture buildup.

By taking these steps, you can prolong the lifespan of your gates and maintain their functionality even in challenging weather conditions.

Install weatherstripping and seals

When you seal your commercial gates with weatherstripping, you’ll feel a sense of relief knowing that rain, wind, and drafts won’t be able to sneak through and disturb your business. Here are some weatherstripping installation tips to ensure effective sealing:

  • Choose the right type of weatherstripping material for your gate, such as rubber or vinyl.
  • Measure each section carefully and cut the weatherstripping to fit precisely.
  • Clean the surface where the weatherstripping will be applied to ensure proper adhesion.
  • Apply the weatherstripping evenly along all edges, making sure there are no gaps.

Using seals on your commercial gates offers several benefits. They provide an additional layer of protection against harsh elements, preventing water leaks and reducing energy loss due to drafts. By keeping out unwanted moisture and air infiltration, seals also help maintain a comfortable indoor environment for employees and customers.

To further enhance the weatherproofing of your commercial gates, it’s important to provide adequate drainage and ventilation.

Provide adequate drainage and ventilation

To ensure proper drainage and ventilation for your commercial gate, it is important to consider the following:

  • Adequate ventilation is crucial for preventing moisture buildup, which can lead to rust, corrosion, and damage to the gate’s structure. Install vents or louvers in strategic locations on the gate to promote air circulation and allow moist air to escape while fresh air enters.

  • Incorporating drainage techniques will help redirect water away from the gate’s surface. Consider installing gutters or sloping the ground away from the gate to ensure proper runoff.

Regularly inspect and maintain these drainage systems to ensure their effectiveness in keeping your commercial gate weatherproofed and protected against moisture-related problems.

Conclusion

In conclusion, by implementing the weatherproofing techniques discussed in this article, you can ensure the longevity and durability of your commercial gates.

The service and the work that was done was exceptional. We needed to replace three very old (and very heavy) garage doors in a home that was built in 1960. There were a number of challenges along the way and each one was met professionally and in a timely manner. Lisa was an excellent communicator and highly responsive. Kevin did an extraordinary job with a fairly involved installation. His 'can do' attitude was very refreshing and reassuring. As noted, the final result was terrific. The pricing was VERY reasonable and very fair. The install was completed two days ago and I have already received compliments from the neighbors!

On Oct. 31 my electric gate stopped working and I called Alpha Gate and Door and talked to Lisa. She was great and based on my symptoms said she thought it was the battery and she would send Kealan out the next day. He came and replaced the battery with a 12 v 55ah battery. I asked him to rehang my reflector light on my neighbors new fence so the motion sensor would work. It had worked fine prior to that being taken down. He did that and it worked for a minute and then stopped. He rewired it and it worked once and he left. The next day I noticed the sensor was not working but I didn’t really care because my dog is too small to trigger it. I was charged $448 -$169 for the service call, $249 for the battery and $30 to rewire the sensor. I work exclusively from home as an attorney and never even use the gate during the week. A few weeks later the gate stopped operation completely and I called on Dec. 6. Lisa said she would send Kealan out. He called me and I said the gate would not open at all, the sensor was not working and the sensor was making a nonstop buzzing noise. He arrived fairly late in the day and I saw him pull into my driveway but he did not come to my door and went straight to the gate. I immediately went out there and I saw when he opened the cover that the battery charger lights were not on. He was in a very bad mood and starting ripping the battery out and said I needed a new battery. I said I guess it was because the battery charger wasn’t plugged in. I was not mad about it because that can happen to anyone. He got really mad at that point, I guess because I knew what had happened. He demanded to know whether I had unplugged it, grabbed a huge battery that would not even fit in my unit, then declared the charger had “allegedly” not been plugged in. As he was trying to force the battery in and was slamming everything around, I asked him if he had a smaller battery. He said no, it was whomever installed my gate opener’s fault because the antenna was on the left and they were usually on the right. He continued to try to force it but could not get the cover on. So he gave up and said he would come back Monday with a smaller battery. I assumed the sensor was not working because the battery had died. I heard nothing from anyone the following Monday and had had it so I called Lisa and yelled and told her the way Kealan had behaved and when was the battery actually going to be installed. She said she would talk to Kealan and I said do you have anybody else who is not a jackass who could come instead. She said she would investigate and call me back. She never called me back and apparently the next day around lunch Kealan snuck onto my property, did not tell me he was there, and put in another battery and texted me the gate was now working. I went outside to try it and the remote was not working at all. I have programmed remotes many times (I have done a lot of products liability work and handled cases with complex machinery failures and deposed a lot of engineers so I am not unfamiliar with this type of equipment) and checked it and the receiver was getting the signal from the transmitter but the control board was not opening the gate.So I called Lisa, explained he had come but not told me he was there, and that the remote was not opening the gate. I also apologized for yelling at her the day before because it was not her fault. She said she would tell him. After that call I remembered there is a reset button on the Patriot control board so I went out and pushed it and that caused the remote to work so I called Lisa and said it was working. The new battery is smaller than the one he had originally put in and retails for about $95. The motion sensor still does not work, I have done jumping jacks in front of of it to know avail. I am not bothering to call again about that because Kealan would probably get really mad again. He does NOT like his competence put into question. You decide if $249 is a fair markup on a $95 battery.

I highly recommend Alpha Gate & Door Company! The entire process was incredibly quick and professional! I spoke with Lisa (she’s amazing and extremely knowledgeable) on Tuesday and she came out Wednesday with a recommendation to replace the gate opener that was faulty and couldn’t handle the weight of my gate. I received the reasonable quote the same day and their technician, Keelan, was at my house on Friday of the SAME WEEK to install. Keelan was just as courteous and professional as Lisa and did an amazing job! The install was perfect and pristine! I’ve tried working with other companies and honestly they are hands down the best! If there were 10 stars available, I would give them 10!
